Hi, I’m Shona, a Midlands based Textile designer. I am a multi-disciplinary designer, producing textile designs for various different outcomes, from fashion to interior and exterior design. I specialise in Printed Textiles with advanced skills and confident understanding in this specialism, having the ability to successfully screen and digitally print with the understanding of the material background that is at hand. Throughout textile design I persistently push the boundaries, questioning what Textiles could actually be, producing unconventional textiles, from the materials to the print process on the surface, enhancing the understanding of the characteristics of material and keep an open mind when designing.
Art movements such as Cubism, DADA and Bauhaus has excelled my design work, heavily focusing on the abstraction of geometrics and line drawing, pushing the graphics of these designs. However, throughout my Master’s Degree I have broadened my skills as a designer, allowing adaptability throughout different styles of drawing/designing as well as new technologies. I enjoy using bold, contrasting colour palettes, catered for the design purpose and how these can improve the levels of interest environmentally, socially and technically as well as through print processes changing the dynamic of the colour, placement, light and texture, producing a range of movements within design.
