Throughout ‘Distraction’, the focus was heavily on creating fun and interesting print designs, stemming from the inspiration of video games. These addressing the idea of distraction and including variations of patterned, coloured and textured materials that can be used for interior and exterior environments in and around hospitals. I developed an understanding of how easy the plain environments can affect brain activity; decreasing the speed of time and increasing boredom, creating a multitude of confusion and under stimulation. Therefore, producing a range of designs that would be suitable for hospital use but in which would benefit patients on lower level adult wards, those with minor injuries through the use of design within the textiles around the ward.
Focusing on the adult wards has allowed me to think innovatively as through research I gained an understanding of the mass uses of colour and design already throughout the wards, however, the adult wards still being very plain through the white interior walls to the sheets and the curtains.
Hospital interiors
This collection includes a variation of fabric that can easily be cleaned, comfortable and suitable for hospital use. These designs were developed into a calming colour palette with a playful design, reflecting video games. Leading onto a heavy combination of line and geometrics; increasing stimulation and well-being of the patients. These also include some fabrics that are affected by light, including colour change and reflection. Therefore, are able to be handled in different environments depending on where in the room they are placed.
EXTERIOR DESIGN - WALL ART
This collection ranges materials such as wood and paper to be used on the hospital walls and for the exterior walls of the buildings. This increases the interest in all different environments. Focusing this collection on design and a happy place, whereas the first being mainly on touch and light. The colours throughout these designs are also restricting due to the overall environment, but also include a playful element to the design, taking it from a 2D design to 3D. This introduces a playful element to the geometric, bold graphic design.
